I have a BT Broadband connection along with Windows XP Home. When I connect to the internet two flashing monitors have started to appear on the taskbar. They say I am connected to the internet at 2.3 Mbps. When I check my connection speed through BT Broadband desktop help I get a different, and much slower connection speed. What is the purpose of these flashing monitors and why have they suddenly started to appear? Can they be disabled

they can be disabled by going into your network connection properties and untick show icon. some people like them there as a handy way of disconnecting. the speed indicated by them has nothing to do with your i/net speed it is the indicator of speed of connection between pc and your modem or whatever you have.
