Internet Explorer locks up after Auto Update

Auto update has today installed, amongst others, Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB912812). Now, when I click on the down arrow on the address bar, IE freezes and has to be shut down with task manager. I have sent error report when prompted, but no guidance from Microsoft Knowledge Base pops up.

Everything was working fine yesterday and this has only happened following the auto-update which ran this morning.

I have tried to run the restore wizard, but it was unable to return to a previous restore point. In fact, does restore actually work as I have never sucessfully managed to return to a system restore point?

Thanks - Stuart.
