Internet Explorer homepage hijacked!!!

Hey all, I'm pretty new and admit am quite useless with computers. Would appreciate if some kind souls out there can help with some difficulties I'm experiencing :

1) My Internet Explorer homepage keeps resetting to prosearching.com and sometimes in.webcounter.cc....about.blank. Othertimes, it's all-ru.net. Running Ad-aware & Spybot as well as SpyRemover and resetting the homepage doesn't help.

2) Somehow, an additional toolbar (boobkind) seems to have attached itself to my browser. Can't seem to get rid of it either.

3) When I switch to one of my secondary user account (limited) on XP, a message :an exception occurred while trying to run "amesca.cpl,RUN_DLL" appears. What does that mean?

4) Also in my secondary user account, the Internet Explorer takes forever to begin to load. And when it does load, the homepage is hijacked to pages mentioned in item (1) and then hangs before it finishes loading up.

5) When I go to Yahoo! webpage, the Yahoo! logo and certain pictures and ads does not load. Only empty spaces with red cross appear instead. No problem on most of the other sites though. What could be the problem?

I've since tried using Opera browser instead but there are quite a few pages that requires Internet Explorer. I think I'm going to have a mental breakdown soon!

Please help me someone!!

Thanx!

Try downloading coolweb shredder click here

update it first ,then run a scan--make sure you opt to fix things rather than report only.

I take it that your adaware/spybot progs are fully up-to-date?

  expertec 09:43 12 May 04

Download and install Ad-Aware from click here and Spybot Search & Destroy from click here .

Run these programs (one at a time), use the update function inside the programs, download all the updates and then scan with them. Fix everything they find.

Then re-boot your computer.

After that download and install SpywareBlaster to stop any nasties coming back click here

Then download HijackThis click here

Go to click here register and look in the "Hijack This and Spyware Removal Support" section, someone will explain how to use HijackThis and help you with it

Like many other pc users I have a problem with nasties. The searchweb2 toolbar and my homepage being hijacked. I have up to date (auto updates) adaware, zonelabs and avast. I installed spy sweeper yesterday updated and ran it but I still cannot get rid of this toolbar. Spy sweeper sends an alert every so many seconds but I don't know how to permanently get this off my pc.
I am desperate.
Please could someone help.

I would follow expertec's advice, but would run ad-aware and cwshredder in safe mode as it's more effective.

Hi Dan the confused! Well I am truly confused myself. I went onto the adaware site and followed some of their advice given to another user who has roughly the same probem. Firstly checking all the settings in adaware etc clear all internet files etc, then started in safe mode, ran adaware etc. logged on and the toolbar has gone, but I went and logged onto my son's (user) and lone and behold the toolbar is back on his but not on mine. I thought that adaware scans the whole pc and not just one user. Why has this happened. Is there something then that he has downloaded?
Help please.
Heidi

Probably best if you start your own thread as this is someone else's. Remember to state what Windows version you use.

Please post a HJT log following the instructions click here carefully. Post the log here - you may need to do this in two halves because of the 800 word limit. Also, please double-space your post (add a blank line between each line) to aid legibility.

you can press f12 and identify opera as internet explorer for the meantime whilst you cure it

I have a more intrusive problem. I have picked up an 'infection' which I cannot remove. If I right-click on any Internet explorer page, the menu box that appears contains this item:
>>>FREE PORN GALLERIES<<<

Please can someone tell me how to get rid of it?

I have 'Spybot' and 'Adaware' installed and updated, but they don't find it.
