Internet Explorer Freezing PC

I have been having problems with IE freezing my PC. When it does I am able to do nothing - I have to switch off via the power button.
I am using XP with IE6. I have scanned using AVG and it found some registry problems which are now fixed, but I am still having the same problems when using IE.
I have tried using Firefox to browse which seems ok, but it takes ages to download pages and not all images appear and some links do not work either.
I would prefer to use IE but I am struggling to work out what the problem is.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

You could try this click here but if the system freezes and Firefox is slow too the problem might be of a more fundamental nature.

Try System File Check; click here

do you not want to use ie7?

IE7 is not a problem apart from not being able to get onto the web long enough to update before the PC freezes!!
