I am bewildered! I can connect to the internet (via broadband) on my Windows XP System, my daughter can use Windows Messenger (all evening it seems!), my son can play Warcraft III online, I can send and receive e-mails, HOWEVER, no matter what, when I try to browse the internet the pages stop loading within 5 minutes of browsing the internet. WHY? I have even tried Mozilla, in case it is a problem with Internet Explorer, but it does exactly the same. I have NOrton Anti Virus 2004 bang up to date and there are no viruses, and I have Norton Personal Firewall. I have run Spybot S&D which found some stuff, but it has made no difference. I found a note somewhere about Winsocks and tried that, but still no effect. Can anyone give me a clue as to what is wrong? Oh, and how to fix it!! Thanks. Yours Hopefully, Martin
I have found the/a solution, but it actually takes its direction from something I had not mentioned nor realised was involved.
I previously had Zone Alarm installed. Now, I used Add/Remove programmes to remove it, which was the start of my problem. The article I found said that using the inbuilt windows feature to uninstall it does not properly get rid of it, the upshot being a residual effect occurs ie the problem I had. According to the note I read, r-installing Zone Alarm and simply disabling it when it starts up allows IE to work properly: they are right (whoever they are).
So, thanks again and I am sorry I did not give you all sufficient to resolve this.
