Internet Explorer doesn't recognise website names

I run Win2k and use McAfee Virus Scan and Personal Firewall. I have recently started to be unable to connect to a website using IE5 (from PC Advisor). It works perfectly if I type in the IP address but not the website names. I have checked my browser, anti-virus and firewall settings but all seems OK. I have also tried re-installing IE, but no success. Any ideas?

Search for a file called Hosts - it will be in C:L\windows or C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

(Note plain "hosts", no file extension)

If you find it Shift+right click, OPen with and select Notepad.

Does it contain website addresses? If so rename it to hosts.txt and reboot.

Thank you for the suggestion, I did it all and also uninstalled Spybot S & D, then re-started the PC but it still doesn't work. Any other ideas?
