Internet Explorer connection problem

Why does Internet Explorer keep loosing all setup files? All is running great when I switch off. When I switch on again it does not bring up the box to open the logon screen. Could it be an update file that is causing this?
When I try to open Internet Explorer all that shows on screen is the standard and format tool bars, address bar and the Wanadoo bar, and egg timer but no connection box. When I use the MSN Icon it loads the connection box, I can then load the Internet.
How do I get it back? The only way I can do this is to do a restore.
I have gone into Control panel and checked Internet Options, all looks ok. Non of the items on the tool bar work.
Thank Al

Try a repair click here but you will need your XP disc.

I repaired IE without an XP disc, try the following.Click start-control panel -add/remove programs. On the left you will see add/remove windows components, click on this and then IE.You will be offered a choice to repair or remove. Simply click on repair.
