Internet Explorer 6 error message

I run XP. On boot-up, I get the following error message:
IE6 has been removed from this computer. Do you want to clean up your personal settings for this program? yes/cancel

I just click cancel and the error message goes, and XP boots up as normal. IE6 is working normally, although I did have a problem for a few days in which the shortcuts to the internet on the desktop didn't work. This solved itself, but the error message remains. It's not debilitating, just annoying. How can I get rid of the error message?

According to the writeup in the link I gave, repairing IE6 can actually CAUSE this fault.
