Internet Explorer 4 and SP2

I have set up a brand new PC for a colleague. First thing I notice that XP is SP1, so I installed SP2 from CD.

Next, Internet Explorer was version 4 (maybe this is why it was so cheap).

So, can anyone give a link to upgrade to the latest version, and would it be better to uninstall SP2 until after the upgrade, so that SP2 can 'work' on the later version?

Hi, you should be able to find IE6 on most pc mag cover disks.

Thanks, that just leaves the SP2 question.

i wouldn't have that upgrading IE after upgrading to SP2 would make any difference

try it and see!

I don't think you would have any problems from SP2 during or after upgrading IE. Create a System Restore Point first anyway.

If the pc has Windows XP with SP2 installed I am puzzled as to why you have Internet Explorer 4. You should have Internet Explorer 6 SP1 by default.

I agree with Chezdez

Visit Windows update afterwards to check for IE6 patches.

You could be right, SP2 may have upgraded IE. I didn't check after installing SP2.

VoG™, once I get the lady online and on broadband I will go to Windows update. My SP 2 was on CD, so that will need updating by now.
