Internet connection "Freezing"

  Sapins 17:07 08 Dec 03

Hi all,

A friend here in France has a Tiscali dial-up connection and it normally connects at 40-50kbps but, when he tries to access a web page or do a search on Google it gets as far as the opening page and then freezes. Both the sending and receiving lights fade out or flash intermittently and he cannot move from there. The modem is an external Intel V92 and he has XP Home installed. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Diodorus Siculus, don't think the problem has anything to do with IE or am I totally wrong?

E-Mail is OK I got the request to post this that way.

Sapins - I don't know reallym but always try to rule out the basics first of all.

Given that email is OK, I would have thought that it is a browser problem.

Check Security and Privacy settings in Tools; use default if necessary.

Also check that certain websites are not being blocked if you wish to access them.

If all else fails try Proxomitron but, if you do, configure it to the letter....:-)

Proxomitron solves the problems involved with downloading advertisements which prevent the webpage itself being downloaded as part of its functions.

I had the same problem last year and my son, an IT support specialist, immediately referred me to Proxomitron.

After installing it everything was fine.

Hi Stuartli, thanks for your response. Will check settings and also see if any web sites are blocked with a firewall.
What is Proxomitron and where do I get it please. I will let you know if any of your suggestions works.
