internet connection box

  spec 20:54 27 Sep 03

Every time I start up I get the internet connection box on the desktop. Sometimes I can cancel it (although it always appears a second time) but more often than not it will freeze the screen causing me to shut down. Ctrl, alt, del does'nt always work either. And anyway that only deals with the symptom as you know.

What do you reckon guys (and gals of course).

Thanks in advance

Try running Adaware or Spybot Search and Destroy, to remove any spyware you might have inadvertently installed. Also checkout your Startup folder and msconfig to make sure there's nothing in there which might be trying to connect on startup, an update application maybe. To get to msconfig, go to Start > Run, type msconfig, click OK and click the Startup tab. If you spot something that might be trying to connect, untick it's entry and exit, reboot ans see if that cures the problem.

whats an internet connectiion box? is it a window or something on the taskbar? if its on the taskbar, you could try going to RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP and see if the box is there and just unclick it.

Thank you both but I tried your suggestions before coming here. The 'box' I speak of WaiKent is the window, prog or whatever which has 'connect to'on it(in the browser), sorry for lack of technical qualification.
