internal/external IP's

I have a home wireless network consisting of a desktop and a laptop, I can connect winamp from my laptop to my desktop and strema music using the 'internal' IP address (click here).

If I 'allow' my work IP through my home firewall, can I simply substitute the external IP and listen to the stream from work. I am confused as to what the external IP address belongs to, why would it connect to the desktop and not the laptop?
