Intermittent start up problems

I use XP Home SP3.

Sometimes when I start up my system, the DOS screen shows briefly as is normal, then the screen goes black with one or more narrow bars across the screen with a couple of small best described as narrow oblong blocks above the lines. The process goes no further, and the windows logo never appears.

Turning off at the rear switch seems to be the only solution, When I turn on and use the front button all loads normally.

Advice please of probable causes and cures

Maybe check that your air vents are clear of dust and fluff,if so inside will also need cleaning.it may be your PSU needing replaced.

Open PC and clean out all dust and fluff (hair dryer on cold and vacuum cleaner - do not let nozzles touch parts)

Also remove and refit both memory and graphics cards, as the fault may be a bad contact.
If still same then PSU or graphics card failing.
