How is it when connected (cabled) to router?

Have you got the router set up 802.11 b/g/n ?

That setting is compatible with all nic's. Plus you might have it set to 802.11 a which has a range of 150 ft plus weaker waves. Whereas g/n are much stronger.

Do you mean you lose the Internet whilst using the computer, or with it being idle for 20 Min's etc?

There are power settings that cut the wireless connection to save power after x amount of minutes idol.

You should update firmware too. Go to your isp's website and update firmware

"wireless, but i also keep having to reboot my main pc as that too loses the net well its ip address"

Do you lose connection then it reconnects straight away once you try and connect again or do you need to assign a new ip via dhcp?

i do loose connection with main pc, so i hve to keep reboot it or turning it off at the mains plug

Get in touch with Virgin on the freephone number 151 if you have their phone. You need an engineer to check your cable. It can be caused by a faulty connector in you cable from the "Box" down the road. Go to their site if you need to email for assistance.

Try connection direct to the virgin modem and see if this cures the error. (use an ethernet cable)
