interference with tv

hi, its not a problem anymore but thought i'd post as i'm not quite sure what has happened! I used to use dial-up on 56k and my tv is quite close to my pc and when it was switched on while using my pc there would be diagnonal lines across the picture on the screen, these wouldn't be as bad when the pc was off, but would still be there. I had broadband installed a few months ago and the tv and pc are still in the exact place, but the picture on the tv is now extremely clear, even with the pc switched off!!! I'm not complaining, but I am confused as to how the dial-up alone could have caused such interference!
