Instlling Windows SP3 as opposed to updates

I have just done a format and reinstall of Windows for the umpteenth time and I am dreading having to download all those updates yet again.

I am running Windows XP incorporating SP2 and my question is could I not just install SP3 instead, which I have on a CD, or does it not work that way?

I would suggest that you read this first which is self explanatory.

Yes run SP3 cd to up date from 2 to 3 then run windows updates to get the rest of the updates since sp3 was released.

I thank you for your quick response to my post.

I have taken your advice and read up on what's involved in the installing of SP3.

My conclusion is that the "cure" would be about as bad if not worse than the disease.

I think I'll stick to the online updates!
