Hi, I have tried installing windows XP on a Fujitsu seimens amilo laptop and it failed. Displaying an error message saying briefly that it could not find the Harddrive and to run a manufactturers supplied diagnostic disc.

I have not got the disc it asks for as I bought it pre used with Vista on it and no disks... please help me... Steve UK

Do you know the make of the hard disk? E.g. Maxtor, Western Digital, Hitachi, etc. They usually have free diagnostic utilities available to download that you could use to check the drive.

Is it a SATA hard disk? What version is the XP disk - does it have SP2 at least? G

Thanks for that idea..... I shall try it right away..

You don't say what you're going to try?

Remember, if it's a SATA drive & you're using pre-SP2/SP3 version of XP, it could be that you need to load SATA drivers during the start of the install. G

I decided that to put on win 7 from a friend in need.... which has worked very well. (Surprised??)

Cheers for your help crossbow7...
