Assuming the mobo & BIOS will accept large drives how does one go about installing XP onto such a large drive on a fresh system.
I have the Big Drive Enabler software and SP1 on disc but will it go straight on or will it be a problem?

You do not need anything

Boot from the XP CD and it will do all that is needed.

But...you will need SP1 or later for it to see beyond 137GB

If your XP installation CD itself already has SP1 integrated into it, you just install XP in the normal way by booting from CD. XP Setup will recognise the hard disk size.

If CD is XP original version, XP Setup will not see the full size. What you can do is create a partition smaller than 128GB. Install XP on to it. After XP is installed, install SP1, then go into Disk Management, and the correct size should be shown. Then you create further partitions and format the partitions.

Alternatively you can create a XP SP1 slip-streamed CD yourself, from the installation CD and the SP1 CD, and boot from that newly created CD.

I like the idea of creating a XP SP1 slip-streamed CD .
Any clues about how to go about that would be much appreciated.

There are many websites with step by step instructions. Try to find one which shows you how to do it with your own burning software. Try:
