installing windows xp home over windows xp pro

have just found out that i have an illegal copy of win xp pro on my pc.ha ha u might say.
i have been out and bought a new copy of windows xp home ( leaglly i might add)
i cannot install this on my machine, how do i install or do i have to formatt the entire hard drive ? if i have to i will formatt ( help needed to formatt)
but any advice on installing it or how to formatt will help,
i must add though that if i try to install i get an error message saying your version of windows you are trying to install is older than the one on your system, plz help

If you can backup your data then a clean install using the link that VoG™ has supplied will leave you with a faster more stable system than trying to overwrite.

I know that the price will be a bit higher,But cant you swop the XP Home for XP Pro, Then all you would need to do, Is phone Microsoft with your new Keycode,Then you would not have to re-format Computer.
