Installing windows XP

  DomJolly 07:29 11 Feb 03

Probably a silly question but...
I want to "Clean" install Windows XP onto my pc.
Ive formatted the Hard disk and gone through the usual proceedure to the point of the normal D prompt D:\CD WIN9xsetup

It does not recognise this prompt.
Is there a different or special command to be used here.
Ive been told XP can be booted directly but not had no joy here.
Any help would be much appreciated

" the point of the normal D prompt", but which drive is that?

If you are in the Hard drive you should be seeing a C:\ prompt. If the D:\ prompt is your CD ROM drive you should be able to start the insyaller by typing: setup after the prompt, and then pressing the enter key.

Xp is bootable, that means if your computer is set to boot from the cd rom drive, it will auto run or you will see the screen message, 'Press any key to boot from cdrom'

If your computer is not set to boot from 'D' drive, you have to set this from the bios.

Your motherboard manual will tell you how to configure this option.
