Installing software in Vista

I'm getting terrible ear-ache from my grand daughter. She has several CD-ROM's which won't install on Vista(I used to have Win98 which was straightforward). Also, all the CD-ROM's (games etc) that I had installed on Win98 won't get a look-in on Vista. Any idea what I need to do to get them through to Vista? If all else fails, can I install Win98 or something similar alongside Vista?
(I've got "Fighting Steel", which was a present, and that, I'd love to have a go at).
Thanks for any help.

I think you may be chasing a lost cause on this one, if the games were written for Win 98 it is unlikely that there will be patches for use on a Vista machine. However I stand to be corrected :)

If you do a google search on the game you might find a Vista fix
