installing SATA optical drives

Apologies if this has already been posted, I did search for a long time.

I've recently been using a borrowed PC and was extremely impressed by its SATA optical DVD writer. Very quick to recognise a disk and load, and I can only put it down to the SATA connection (not Vista, surely?). As I'm using XP, if I replace my current ATA drive, will there be a problem with the drivers (like this floppy disk nonsense when installing a hard drive under XP)?

I recall reading somewhere that SATA optical drives are less fussy with drivers.

Non-urgent, one at your leisure!

Thanks

Roger

I have XP with a SATA DVD writer and it works very well. I have had it a while, but I do not recall any installation issues.

As long as you have a spare SATA socket on your motherboard.
