Installing a sata drive

I'm a complete beginner and recently bought a Seagate ST3500630AS 500GB SATAII 16MB Cache 7200RPM OEM
found out it wouldn't fit in my machine and the man in maplins said i needed a Serial ATA Raid PCI Card. I've installed the card & drivers for that, plugged my new drive into it and now i'm stuck. I expected to find the hard drive in my computer but nothing. What do i do? I'm so not technical minded. I've searched and found stuff on striped or mirrored raid which has gone right over my head. All i want is the extra disk space. Thanks in advance

Have you enabled SATA in the Bios?

No beeuuem, How do I do that?

To enter the BIOS the norm is to tap 'Delete' on startup.
You need to know your motherboard details and the BIOS that it uses. The manual should tell you how to enable SATA. From memory you need the RAID function turned off if you only have one SATA hard disk.
