Installing from "run"

I'm trying to install a Concise Oxford Dictionary CD program from "run", and eventually come up against the following error message:
"Application Error: SETUP 1 caused a General Protection Fault in module KRNL.386.EXE at 0001: 2452". The same thing happens with an Oxford Compendium disc. Going through Add/Remove in Control Panel is no more successful. Has anyone any idea of how to get round this, please?

What year or version is it?

Both CDs came with issues of Personal Computer World in about 1998 and 2000
