Installing ps2 mouse driver for laptop

I have a laptop (win XP)

It has a touch pad (pointing device - Synaptics Touch pad V5.9)

however I predomantly use a ps2 mouse (ms intellimouse with wheel)

The mouse works fine most of the time but in some applications the wheel will not work (corel draw)
I downloaded the latest driver for the mouse.

When i started to install it, I was warned that the current driver would be removed. I therefore did not install it as I need the touchpad to work when the mouse is not present.

What do I do? so far i have done nothing except download it

TIA

is used by the operating system, and if a program doesn't support the mouse wheel it doesn't - changing the driver isn't going to alter that.

I think that the new mouse driver is going to remove the current (mouse) driver - not the touchpad software. That should remain unaffected.
