I've just got second hard drive for my pc and was wondering what is the best way to install it. A friend of mine recently installed a new HD but he had to use the cable select jumper setting - will I need to do this or will simply setting it as a slave work?

This is my setup:

IDE1 - Primary HD, Slave, DVD drive
IDE2 - Primary CDRW, proposed slave, HD2

OS is WinXP, mobo is Asus A7V33

Setting your new disk as a slave should be fine. You shud probably make HD2 the lave on IDE1 with the other HD.And move your DVD as slave on IDE2 with cdrw

Will having both my DVD rom drive and my CDRW on the same IDE affect disc to disc copying?

Yes this will make disk to disk copying slightly slower as the data is sharing the bandwidth of the one cable.

No, i disc to disc copy with that configuration.

If the existing HDD has multiple partitions fdisk the new one as extended or it'll push in as D instead of tagging on
