Installing Graphics Drivers

Do old drivers have to be deleted before installing an update?

Check out the manufacturer's website, the documentation (if any) in the zip file or post the graphics card and the update filename and see if anyone else has had to do it.

It may be best to remove old driver and revert to standard VGA driver if replacing a grahics card with a new one. If updating driver for same card the update should install over the old driver ok

Hi Gunner. Yes it is usual to remove old drivers first. Set the "Graphics Adapter" to Standard VGA, restart the computer then install the new drivers.

It is wise to remove the old drivers first as suggested.

I just spent 5 hours installing the latest drivers for an ATI 9200SE. Control panel wouldn't work with a fresh install as the diagnostics page was missing from the display properties. Installing the updated version over the original drivers/cpl off the CD sorted it. Odd, 'cause the ATI readme says you have to remove all trace of previous installs. Ho hum...
