Installing a DVD writer

My pc is an Evesham Axis 2800. I have DVD ROM and CDRW drives. I need to install a DVD writer. Do I use the spare slot or replace the CDRW.

I am a complete novice on this and would appreciate some guidance as to how to go about this.
Many thanks.

I would replace the CDRW. It should be a very straightforward job and you won't have any need for it when you have your DVDRW installed.
If you haven't decided yet, this looks like a good buy.

I would use the spare slot.

Then if you have a weird reading some time you can check with the other in a first line approach to what's wrong.
Occasionally it is also useful to be able to copy directly from one CD to another

You won't be overloading your PSU since neither drive will draw current once in an idle state.

Ventilation might just be a snag with more clutter present, though you can choose cable routing to minimise the heat risk.

Replace the DVD ROM.
My other points apply.
All laser devices have a limited life and you can ease the burden by sharing the work.
