Installing Audigy Sound System

I currently have onboard 5.1 Surround sound-6 Channel Audio with Creative Sound Blaster SBS260 speakers. I wish to replace this with Audigy Sound System supported by Creative Inspire 6.1 6700 speaker system. I have installed the card with supporting software but can't get any sound from speakers. I suspect I must first disconnect the current on board sound, but how do you do this? I have WindowsXP Home.
Can anyone please guide me through this

Hi, to enable/disable onboard sound - restart pc, during restart hold down Del key, this will bring up the BIOS Menu, navigate through the menu to Integrated Peripherals/OnChip Device Function where you should find Sound Device. The menu does show which keys to use for navigation. Cheers.
