installing apache on win xp pro

  cyberpharmacist 20:13 08 Jul 03

Hi ALl,

Wondering if anyone can help me on installing apache 2.0 on win xp pro.

I downloaded the latest file, and tried to install it onto my system. I have entered the domain as, and the server name as localhost.

I have this error, "no installed service named "apache2", which prevents anything from running.

Please help.

According to click here it could be because you already have a web server installed.

Isn't Apache designed for NT, Unix and Linux?

Even NT seems to be sparsely supported, as this server software is primarily for the other systems.

So, the big question; Will it run in XP?

Apache will normally run quite happily on Windows, well it does for me as a proxy server on Win98.
The Apache site says:-

"Windows NT: This means all versions of Windows that are based on the Windows NT kernel. Includes Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows .Net Server 2003."

So there should not be any problem with XP.
