I have just installed a second SATA hard disk. It is not in a Raid set up. When I started the computer Windows showed the message that new hardware had been detected. However this new disk is not shown under MY COMPUTER in Windows but it is shown in the ADD HARDWARE WIZARD as Working properly. Has anyone any ideas please as to what the problem may be

You need to initialise and format the disk.

contol panel -admin tools -computer mangement - disk management.

Disk should be in there right click initialise and then format.

Any new HD needs to be partitioned (even as a single partition) and formatted before Windows will recognise it.

Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to download from the HD manufacturer's website a simple programme which will almost do it for you.

e.g. Maxblast3 for a Maxstor HD, and other manufacturers have similar software for their own.

Well worth going this route if the HD is a huge
one, saves hours of the old DOS route to FORMAT.... Do please read the instructions first!
