install xp with external usb cd

i want to install win xp on a laptop with a usb external cd. is it the same as any other install

erm, there will be a problem

your computer won't load USB drivers, until it loads windows

unless you go into BIOS and enable USB in there, but you'd need to look into that yourself. some motherboards allow this, some don't

the only other option is to boot from a floppy with USB drivers on it, and then take it from there. i'm not entirely sure how that would work, but i'm sure someone else will

got round it by not reformating,just installing after windows had loaded
