Install a network card in a laptop

Can this be done? If so are there any tutorials?
Also do normal PC nic cards work in a laptop or do you need to buy special cards?

You cannot fit a normal card into a laptop. To get a network port, you either need a USB to ethernet adapter, or a PCCard (PCMCIA card) with a network port. This latter card plugs into the card slot on the side of the laptop.

Both items are very readily available almost everywhere.
