instaling floppy on laptop

could any one tell me if it is possible to connect an external floppy disc driver to my laptop as my laptop only has a cd drive and im not able to save any of my work so if theres a problem one day i could lose all my years of hardwork ive done at uni and am still doing.
is there a way??????????????????

I think you can get a usb one but I may be wrong. I have a small program also that will make a floppy hold 1.72Mb instead of 1.44Mb if you want it post me from envelope to the left of the post, but if you have a USB socket why not get a USB CDRW drive

ALSO I SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THAT THE EXTERNAL FLOPPY DRIVE WAS REMOVED FROM A TOWER, IKNOW YOU CAN GET EXTERNAL USB ONES BUT CAN I PLUG IN THIS ONE IN THE SAME WAY??
