Inspiron 9300 faulty Radeon Mobility X300 graphics

My graphics card (radeon mobility x300) on my Dell Inspiron 9300 has been playing-up intermitently for several weeks. At boot-up it displays alternate balck and white lines or just a black screen. Switching off and starting over generally cured the problem. I have downloaded the latest drivers and bios updates from ATI. The Dell Support Centre PC Check reports the 2D/3D graphics as 'Failed' with no further info. Now at boot-up I get the message "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands. Please tell ATI about this problem."

I am worried that my card might fail completely. Should I replace it now and is this a job I could do myself(not tech savvy). If so shd I go for a different card? I dont play games so dont need anything fancy. Incidentally, once over the initial problem the graphics appear to work OK.

Thanks for any help.
