Insertion point disappears and then reappears

I have a Sony Vaio all-in-one computer. While I am typing, my cursor disappears -- usually every minute or two -- and I have to click the spot where I'm typing to continue. It seems the windows becomes inactive because the blue border becomes a paleblue as if the application has moved to the background. This happens in Word, Exel (the "highlighted" box disappears and then reappears), when typing in emails and when typing on the Internet. The disappearance is preceded by the blue circle flashing on the cursor. I have changed batteries in both mouse and keyboard to no effect. The mouse is a new Logitech wireless and the keyboard is the Sony Vaio keyboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated Phil

You have another program in background that is starting up and 'stealing focus'. It could be a program checking for updates or similar. This click here explains a bit about it.

Update - I found that Nero 7 was the culprit after reading about it from a "Google". Updated Nero 7 and now - touch wood - all is back to normal. Phil
