"Insert disc into drive F:"

My computer has started insisting that i insert a CD into drive F. I do this, it spins up and stops complaining, however it does this every time.

I've also noticed that the desktop icons have disappeared this evening - any idea where they've gone.

Running win 2k fully updated; zone alarm, avg, spyware blaster, a squared, ad-aware, spybot search and destryoy - so am hopefully protected from nasties.

How can i fix these problems?

thanks very much
andrew

You can try Start > Run > SFC /Scannow to use the System File

Checker, but it may ask for the installation CD if the missing files

aren't in the C:\i386 folder.

This technique can also be used to repair Win2K, but it requires

It may be that drive F: has been included in the PATH statement. Open a command prompt and type PATH then press Enter. If the resulting text includes any reference to your F: drive then click here for instructions on how to modify it.
