index dat in windows xp

I searched the archives for info on the above heading, found the thread, and it gives a prog that will delete it.If i try to delete as normal i get a popup box.Cannot Delete is being used by another person or programme. If i use the prog to delete this file will it affect any programmes that i have,or is it best left alone

Depends on the program but the index.dat file will not allow you to delete it with Windows tools whilst Windows is in use.

This site offers a 7-day free trial of software that claims to be able to delete index.dat click here

However, Windows will re-create Index.dat.

As the VoG says, Windows will ALWAYS create another index.dat file.

Thankyou everyone, but one question remains.Does deletion interfere with any prog,s.
