Increasing resolution of a photograph.

I have a photo I took with my previous low resolution digital camera and I wish to increase the resolution to submit it for a magazine. If this can be done which is the best method, I thought about printing in on photo paper and then photographing it with a high resolution camera, will this work or is there another way to do it?

Your way might work, or at least slightly improve the picture, but there is no way to increase the actual resolution other than taking the picture again with a better camera.

Thanks for your replies, I am trying the "photograph the original with a 10mp camera" route, I'll let you know if it works.

I've had some success with that method, but some care is needed. You need to watch for reflection if the photo is on glossy paper, try to use natural daylight. Put the camera on a tripod, shoot at the highest possible resolution preferably in Raw format if available, and fill the frame as much as possible. Also use a remote release or the self timer.

Thanks for the tips, appreciated.
