incorrect webpage displays

I've just signed up for home broadband and the connection seems to be OK except that the webpages don't look quite right i.e. not as I expect, although the do seem to have most of their funtionality.

As an example when I log onto the bbc website instead of the usual format with the of the couloured boxes, the screen is predominabtly white with blue text and photos. Also some of the tabs are missing, e.g. I know the weather page has tabs for 5 day and 24 hour forcasts but they are not displaying on my computer. I similar thing occurs with all the websites I am familiar with.
This fault occurs with IE8 and with firefox

Make sure your Flash and Java programs are up to date if you use them and remove any old ones.
Make sure they are enabled in Add-remove.
