"Incorrect Parameter" error

When a friend upgraded his PC some time back he burnt a fair few files (docs, jpgs, mp3s, powerpoint presentations etc) on to CD for safekeeping.

He's now trying to put these files back on his machine... the CD reads ok and offers him the correct files but none of the files will open or copy across. e.g. if he tries to open a jpg he just gets "no preview available", if he tries to copy a presentation from the cd to his HD he gets an "Incorrect Parameter" error. The size of the files indicate that everything copied ok to the disk but he just cant seem to access them for some reason.

Anyone any ideas? He thinks he burnt them using Windows ME built in tools. |He's currently running XP...could this be anything to do with it?

Can't he use Windows Explorer and drag the files from the CD into another new folder??
Using a graphic program he should then be able to browse to the jpeg files in the new folder and open them???
