Inconsistent speed on wireless network

Hi all,

I have a problem with a wireless network and cannot seem to determine what the solution is.

I have a network running 4 laptops. All different manufacturers and different configurations and different ages. Three of the laptops work fine across the network one 2005,2006,2007.

The 4th is causing me problems - also 2007. The speed in the "wireless network connection" tab keeps varying from 54mbps and 1mbps - All the others work at a constant 54mbps.

The ISP is Virgin for all the laptops. The laptop has never worked constantly with Virgin.

Could it be a faulty network card, a firewall setting or reinstall the Virgin software.

I have turned off all firewall settings and the error still occurs. I had the laptop working consistently when wirelessly connected to a ADSL router/modem and worked fine for 2yrs. The problem seems to have arisen since installing virgin software.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
