Incomplete URL's in Iexplore address bar

I got rid of a virus called W32.Hostidel.Trojan but now when I type an incomplete URL (i.e when I omit the http:// part) Internet Explorer does not complete the URL and will not find the page. If I use the prefix http:// there is no problem.

I don't want to type the whole thing every time. Can anyone tell me how I fix this?

Finally figured it our myself. There is a section in the registry that specifies what prefix should be used for www. The virus set this to a particular website so that any address typed into the address bar would direct the browser to that website. Getting rid of the virus cleared this value but left nothing in its place. Modifying the prefix to "http://" did the trick.

Two weeks later but worth the wait to hear how it was done... would be good to know the registry key though if possible?
