Inaccessible boot device

  MS35 16:02 15 Oct 05

I'm on windows 2000 professional and got a Blue screen with Stop Inaccessible boot device message this morning. As previous postings it says to Chkdsk/F, but how do I do this as I can't get a dos prompt.

I've options to press DEL on startup and F8 during windows front screen but then when I get blue screen everything stops.

I though it might have been due to removing some software, but I've tried booting from Set up disks but get through to disk 4 when it gives a message of disk.sys is corrupted.

Any thoughts?

download a new win2k floppy set from click here

Or just boot from a win98se boot disk and run chkdsk/f

Created new set from site but still fails with message during installation of disk 4 of disk.sys is corrupted.

Any other thoughts on how I can force a dos prompt to run Chkdsk. Is there a combination of keys that can be pressed on intial start up to force dos?

Will it go into Safe mode

this only if you have to check an ntfs file system
get this click here
create bootdisk with chkdsk, run that
