Improper cpu speed asus a7v600

I have recently replaced the motherboard and cpu for ASUS A7v600-x and AMD Athlon xp 2800 processor. When I switch on the pc in the morning it hangs on the blue ASUS screen on the boot up sequence.
The only way I can get the pc to start is to switch of the power and start again. Then it goes into the bios setting saying "during the last boot up your system hung for an improper cpu speed setting.....". Then I save and exit and pc boots up fine and is o.k for rest of day.
It is set for 2083mhz.
I am using windows xp have 640mb of ram (512 + 128)
Any help I would really appreciate

Thanks for the rapid response.
I'm not too familar with bios setting ( my mate fitted the motherboard), but under advance, is this known as the memory frequency Mhz ? If so this is set to auto.

A friend of mine says this problem may be due to a 250w power supply in my pc. He says I need to upgrade it. Is this true, will this prevent this problem ?
