Importing Mpeg files into MS Movie Maker 2

I have just purchased a new PC and am having problems importing mpeg video files into Movie Maker 2 to edit.
I get an error message that states "mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from"

Anyone any ideas what this is all about?

Movie Maker Version 2.0.3312.0 if this helps.

Sounds like the files you are trying to import are in MPEG2 format.
MPEG2 files are common and are used to burn SVCDs and DVDs,some cameras record directly to this format.
Usually there is a license fee associated with using an MPEG2 codec, so the codec is not commonly distributed.
You will need to convert MPEG2 files before importing them into Movie Maker.

TMPGEnc is excellent for this
