Importing files into Word

I have around 80 separate Word files (Word 2000) and want to do a total word count on the lot. The only way seems to be to import them one after the other into a single document and then do the count. Importing this way is time consuming. Is there a quicker way that anybody knows?

All suggestions much appreciated!

Sorry but some maths will be involved :¬(

Right click on the file name, click properties, statistics and it tells you all you need to know.

Do this for each file and add them up to give the total.

Just for fun I thought I would see how many documents Open Office could open at once. It managed 17 alright. Then I tried to open a whole lot more RTF files as well. It managed a dozen or more before crashing.

How many can Word open at once? Just select them all in Windows Explorer and drag them into Word to see what happens. Eighty files should be enough to make Word crash.
