What way does an IMAP sent folder work?

Does it have to be created by the provider and offered as an option, or can a user always create a sent folder if IMAP is offered ? If so how ?

The purpose is to have all sent emails up on the IMAP server and available to see from multiple computers.

you'll need to create an IMAP 'Sent folder' first. You do it manually by selecting your IMAP account and right-clicking - then new folder - then type the name.

Then you'll have to create a rule in Outlook, telling it to place a copy of all sent mail in the new IMAP folder - it won't do it by default.

So when you create the new sent folder, it creates a sent folder on the IMAP server, and you now only have to tell outlook to put sent emails into that folder instead of the usual sent folder.

OK so when you do that on one computer, and then setup your same IMAP email on a second computer or laptop, will the second computer automatically set everything up or do you still have to add a rule in outlook on every computer you add that email account to ?
