Images in Word doc making the file too large!

I'm inserting some jpg's into a word doc and it's turning the file into several megs! The individual jpg's are only 20-100K each and there's only 5 of them. Any way I can reduce the size of the document (for emailing) without drastically reducing the quality of the images?

Thanks 4 n e help

does winzip give a good compression ratio for word docs?

as in megs > 100s of K?

Yes excellent compression, especially for files with lots of pics. No quality loss on unzipping either.

Just tried an example. Word file 4723 KB, zipped 462 KB.

20%, an improvement.

Thanks VoG™

Is there any way of reducing the size by changing the way I compile the Word doc though?

ie 1.15MB > 950

20% ?

Above example is 90% compression ratio.

I don't know how to reduce the file size from within Word.

Sorry, crossed post.

You are probably only seeing 20% reduction because your images are jpegs which are already effectively compressed files. In my example the images are inserted in "Picture" format in Word.
