If you use a TFT monitor, I need your help to...

look at this 'test' image click here, & tell me if you see any banding at all.

I'm trying to help someone in another forum determine whether his TFT's at fault, or is something else causing the banding. Apparently
when viewing the above test image on a different TFT at work he sees none.

I've got the same monitor & can see the banding in the test image, & also with many (but not all) images on my PC/the Web, but NONE when:

- viewing a coloured document (e.g. in Word, Excel)
- viewing the desktop, when I've 'None' selected in Display Properties > Desktop (WinXP)
- using a Dead Pixel Locator like click here (no dead pixels on his/mine btw)
- viewing program interfaces & webpages that are NOT pictures - no banding when I change colours on this site click here (to change colours click on box to left)

Is this also happening on your monitor? G

Thanks all.

I forgot to mention that it's a 19" WIDESCREEN with a resolution of 1440x900 (aspect ratio 10:6).

Could this be contributing to the banding? Any of you on widescreen TFTs? Ta, G

It's possible the numbers of colours are set to 16-bit - this will produce a "banding " effect. Try it - you'll see the effect.

Solution - set to 24bit or 32bit

Not running at "Optimal Setting"

Running with to low a Colour Setting, say 256 Colours or 8bit, rather than 16 or 32 bit.

I had to check my settings first.
